New Student Orientation
All students who plan to enroll at South Suburban College to pursue an associate’s degree, and/or prepare to transfer, are required to complete the orientation program. New Student Orientation is an essential step in beginning your educational journey.
Please complete the following steps in order:
Placement testing is located in the Assessment (Testing) Center, Room 2266 on the second floor of the Main Campus in South Holland, IL. There are three (3) tests most students will take: ALEKS, Accuplacer, and English.
- Please present a valid photo ID for all assessment testing.
- There is a $25 testing fee for the battery of tests. This is a one-time, non-refundable fee that can be paid prior to testing.
- SSC offers online placement tests for Reading, English and Math. Students can send an email to [email protected] for more information about online placement testing.
- If you have taken a placement test at another college, submit your score report to the College & Career Success Center for evaluation. Note that students may be exempt from placement testing based on previous college credit, official ACT/SAT scores and high school GPA.
Students must complete SSC’s in-person orientation. This is a 2-hour overview of College policies, procedures and resources available for student success. Students will learn about:
- Academic Planning (Self Service)
- Financial Aid
- Support services (including tutoring, library, career and job preparedness, disability services, and veterans services)
- Programs of Study (Your degree or certificate program)
- Student IDs, email logins, and other communication tools
- Clubs and Organizations
Students must sign up for in-person orientation in advance and punctually attend their preferred session. Click here to RSVP.
